I designed 4 different images for THIS magazine, one for each featured article of the May/June issue. All of these articles are focused on travel, How travel relates to issues of identity, accessibility, and gentrification.
This Magazine is one of Canada’s oldest alternative journals. Fiercely independent and proudly subversive, the modern-day This acts as a critical, gutsy voice in today’s media landscape, dedicated to exposing under-the-radar stories and to publishing smart, progressive commentary and reporting on Canadian politics, pop culture, social issues, and the arts.

The development process was straightforward and simple, I read the articles and then inspired myself on the stories and authors to create vivid images that sparked the imagination of readers and made them want to learn more about the stories.
I chose simple colour palettes and used lots of texture to add more detail to the beautiful locations where these stories take place. From the earthy colours of Tunis, to the cold palette of Athabasca glacier.
All illustrations have fun little details that reveal the full story, I want all these pieces to be looked at over and over again to find all the details that reveal pieces of the text.
Working with AD Valerie Thai was amazing, and hope I'll be able to work on similar projects in the future
