Data Feminism
Data Feminism is a book from Catherine D'Ignazio and Lauren F. Klein. Data Feminism offers strategies for data scientists seeking to learn how feminism can help them work toward justice, and for feminists who want to focus their efforts on the growing field of data science. But Data Feminism is about much more than gender. It is about power, about who has it and who doesn’t, and about how those differentials of power can be challenged and changed.
I was commissioned in 2020 to make a mural about this book for the "Abierto Mexicano de Diseño" which took place in Mexico D.F. in October 2020.

In this project I was inspired to create patterns based in each principle and chapter of the Data Feminism book, I was so inspired by the human stories behind the data that I created colorful and relatable characters that communicate the diversity of the examples in the book.
For attendants to the exhibition there were 7 postcards to take home, each one with one of the principles. I hope that this vibrant mural makes data less intimidating to people and I hope it sparks interest in learning more about how data shapes the world we live in.
Working with Catherine and Lauren was incredible, I always love working with authors I admire, their book has been great to read over and over again and I can't wait to see how this mural looks like in other locations and in other languages.
