Surveilance and biometric tech is being deployed at an alarming rate in Latin America and in other global south countries. These technologies are produced in the global north by companies motivated to make a profit. These companies go so far as donating these surveillance technologies to oppressive regimes around the world, causing violations to human rights.
For the visualization I chose to use parallel sets visualization technique mixed with
bars. The use of bars allowed me to show the amount of money these companies
make in thousands of millions of dollars a year, and compare them in a visual form.
I mixed these bars then with the parallel sets to create the connections between
global north countries and global south countries.
